Fra Angelico Followers Icon of Saint Catherine of Alexandria
Antique icon tempera gold gilt on wood panel depicting Saint Catherine of Alexandria. The work was done by followers of Giovanni Da Le Fiesole called Fra Angelico, who was an Italian painter of the early Renaissance. The work looks to be a part of a tryptic. The external rectangular frame is a later addition and on the back bears the name of Giovanni Da Le Fiesole and Benozzo. Benozzo was an Italian painter from the same period as Fra Angelico and the two worked together. The icon is extremely finely painted and carved but it does show some paint losses. The item measures 24cm x 12.5cm and the frame measures 30cm x 18.4cm.
